Say Phoenix to anyone 
not living here. Hear them 
thinking heat 

as a stuck place
where one cannot inhale
or exhale 

what the yoga breathing 
teacher calls 
deliberate pause 

always heat 
serves 
in my words 

a form of privacy 
like snow
Say Phoenix 

my synonym for safety 
where no one can
find me make me

responsible for someone's
drinking someone's rage
I hide here 

hidden and replete
with protection weightless 
against the skin
