Job Security
Every morning Mrs. G accompanied her husband to work at the rural school district, where together they performed a single job and got paid one salary for that.
Mrs. G understood her husband, an elementary school teacher, well-liked, needed help deciphering the job.
She was known to be smart, so the district kept him on, knowing that if his wife would arrive with him each day, the parents would be happy enough, and the children would be learning.
And so it went: Mr. G remained the teacher of record fully respected by his wife who made everything in the classroom work.
Her skills further applied to technology, such that when anyone had a question about phones or computers, they would informally approach Mrs. G, who would help them render whatever instrument functional.
And the arrangement, in sickness and in health, was understood by the community, if not discussed.
