Snapshot: Music Man (after Wayne Hogan)

Did the wild-eyed mustachioed cellist
Initiate his career on strings
At age five playing on a quarter-sized
Violin that just fit his little arms
Young shoulder and neck allowing the stretch
To feel each note along the ebony
Fingerboard? And now that the tones have turned
Fluent as the fish always swimming with him
His ear stays poised to capture the sound
Of intention within that known moment
He has lived and will live with the furious
Drive of the bow obeying his focus
All he has known since that miniature
Instrument that speaks back to genius.
