Occupants (after Wayne Hogan)

Occupants along the land oblivious
Perhaps to the stars at hand plus
The prickly tufts of growth erupting
Pursue their particular avenues.
Some sit with a loved one or another,
While pugilists or would-be wranglers
Bow solely to instinct and fight for
A form of owning whatever might be
Property to which they might affix their name
In the manner of a fixed mindset proposed
By Carol Dweck in psychology,
An either/or way of being that likely
Extends to the urge to conquer and acquire
Whatever stray bits of land appear.
