Shoe (after Wayne Hogan)
For the sketch of a foot, can a word serve
as the best protection? The thought of
Cordovan leather in oval shells tanned,
shaved, polished, naturally dyed by hand,
or alternatively full-grain calfskin
in Boxcalf leather will withstand years of wear.
Likewise, hatch grain offers durability.
A rugged handsome rough out waxed leather
precludes harm, while Museum calf leather
brings a cloudy marbled effect. Can this
thought overtake the fact of breakage shown
in shadowy gray as fracture impinges
on being grounded even lifting
to dance only a word in mind can yield?
