It's Going to Be Morning Anyway (After Wayne Hogan)

And how we know is that the hatted pilgrim
Poses before the empty chair awaiting
The routine assignment to pour forth
Into the pan to heat an ample portion
Of that familiar recipe for
A reliable heart a happy heart to hold
Daytime in esteem reciprocating with
The pleasure of what there is to expect
Of daylight including even the rain
The snow some freeform clouds morphing into
Photogenic curls of gray and white
As we launch from a time-tested chair
Soon wood warm before a checkerboard
Tablecloth usual as a mockingbird
